when will a domain name become available?

i want a certain domain name which is taken but says this Registered on: 12-May-2007 Renewal date: 12-May-2009 so surely if they'd renewed it it would say, so i'm presuming they haven't, just wondering when it will become available again? and do you think i should pursue a different domain name or wait for this one to see if it's been renewed or not?

1. The database of renewals doesn't get updated instantly...i'd assume they renewed.
2. if it is renewed than that domain name is pretty much off limits- unless you were to contact the owner of that domain name and request that name in exchange for something- usually money...
