Domain Name Lookup Knowledge Base

Domain name registration for LLC and Whois lookup? Sometimes you can see who is the owner of any domain name using Whois Lookup service . Sometimes you see the company name only, no first and last name of the owner. Sometime you see both - company name and owner of the company. What are the correct steps to register a domain name for LLC without sharing information about the LLC Owner/Administrator/Domain Manager/etc First and Last names? Of course that should be legal and made regarding US rules. Thank you.
Where can I lookup a domain name to see what other domains are on the same server? I know that this is possible, I've done it before, but forgot where I found it. Basically you submit a domain and the tool returns the other domains sharing the same ip address. This allows me to find other websites owned by the same company.
domain name register lookup? is there a way to look up all the domain names registered by a specific person assuming I knew the name of that person already, for example is there a way i could look up all the domains registered under "Jack Frost"?
where can i lookup the whois history for a domain name? I only want to know about one name so I don't want to pay the high fees at domain tools. I don't mind paying to look up the history for the one search but i do not want to pay the monthy fee that domain tools charges just for this one time use and thier free trail doesn't let you see history. Webarchives just shows old webpages it does not give any info on past whois history. Hosterstats gives hosting history not whois history. Whois gives current owner not past domain owners. Any ideas?
Domain Name Website question? Hi, I have a domain name and website. I decided to search domain lookup on google and clicked on whois domain tools and searched my own web address to find that it listed all my details including name, address and phone number. How do I get these private contact details removed from public access. Thanks
Under what circumstances would you associate one domain name with multiple IP numbers? How would a DNS lookup of this domain be handled since more than one IP is validly associated with the name?
Domain name panic - how do I get it? A year ago, on March 16 '05, I asked a web designer colleague to register a domain name for me. He gifted it to me, he was managing it. He was using domains.yahoo.com to host it for free (I think). Things happened within a year, and I am no longer on speaking terms with this person. I am trying to register my site, but the whois inquiry shows it registered in his name, with expiry on Mar-16-2006. He FWD'd me a yahoo warning that the account will be finally closed. I know he's going to do nothing with it. Now I want to know: a. Will it ever be so that one day I lookup the name, and find mydesired.com "free?" So I can go ahead and get it? When will that day dawn? Why does it keep showing that the site's registered in his name? b. Will someone else eat up the website? Nobody will be interested in the domain, btw, unless they already know it. It's just myname.com. c. What should my strategy be? I do have plan B - i.e. an alternative name - but I really love this one. HELP! He will neither keep nor sell nor refresh the name, but simply let it be expired. I could ask him for it, except that we are not on talking terms, and I do not want to go through him to get my domain back. My main concern is to make sure I get the domain and that his neglect does not make it impossible somehow. I want to know when will his neglect result in the domain name being freed up, so I can take it back the same day? and whether it's possible that the domain will get locked up or something b/c he's taking no action? I have little idea abt domain registration, and I don't understand who grabs and parks stuff and how it's done.
can access websites by IP but not by name? If I try to access a website the normal way in a browser (such as typing "www.google.com") it will say the page cannot be displayed. If I access it using its IP (such as typing "74.125.67.100") it works fine. My messengers (msn and yahoo) cannot log in. I checked the Host file and it is normal, so that's not the problem. I ran HijackThis and cleared out some suspicious stuff, but it didn't fix the problem - though when i run HJ, i now get a warning message saying it is denied access to the Hosts file. Know of any errors that would prevent domain name lookup? The IP Address is that of google - hence me pointing out one works and the other doesn't. I live in an apartment with a wireless network - I have two laptops: the one I'm on now works normally. I had to run the flush as an administrator for it to go, but it didn't fix the problem. Nothing on here worked, but running HijackThis (as an administrator, not normally) and deleting all the suspicious 017 entries fixed it.
Domain messed up! Conflict between name server, Web site host, etc. Need help! Urgent!!!? I was adviced from Registerfly that my domain name falconblanco.com would expire and that I should renew by paying and move the domain to Registerfly. I paid and received payment confirmation and instuctions: 1) - Go to https://registerfly.com/whois/ and do a whois lookup on your name to the current registrar. Go to their website and request the AUTHORIZATION code of the domain name and ensure the name is unlocked. If the name is with ENOM.COM, request the login info of your account. 2) - Once you have the code, go to https://registerfly.com/transfer/status.php enter the code in the box next to the domain name and select the process button, next to it. 3) - You may receive an email from the losing registrar and also from US to approve the transfer once it is approved, it may take 1-2 business days for the name to transfer from the prior company to us. I did all that. The problem is that at ENOM.COM my domain does not show, I can't get the authorisation code. I'm stuck! I tried for days and now my Web site doesn't show up and also I can't receive email. From the helpdesk of my host lunarpages I got the same instruction and it doesn't work because at http://enom.com my domain doesn't show up and there seems to be no way to connect with a person. I wrote several email, but without response. I feel impotent and don't know what to do. It is like asking for a working permission and they tell you that you can only get this if you are resident, but you only get the residence if you have working permission. I am desperate. Please help me. What can I do? At Enom my domain doesn't show up, I really tried every thing after loging in. I went to eNom and did what you wrote. Loged in and searched for falconblanco.com and there was nothing found. I am sure I didn't make any mistake. I will phone tomorrow morning, now it is too late. I called eNOM and was surprised that I could talk with an operator, he seemed to be professional and was nice and calm, so that felt good and calmed down my esperation, beside he gave me detailed instruction what to do. Pretty complicate indeed but somehow I see clear now. Thank you both for your advice, I appreciate this 'answers' more and more...
Domain search by contact/personal name? Hi, :) I think I already asked this a while back but I wanted some other answers too, from more people. :D There are of course these WHOIS databases, where you can look up a domain owner's personal information, etc... Is it possible, anywhere on the web, to do it in reverse, and look up a domain name by the contact address? It would be like a lookup to see what domains a certain person owns, and their contact addresses, etc. Is this kind of thing in existence? Anywhere at all on the web? Can you be absolutely certain? If there is somewhere, could you please tell me where it is? This isn't for me to stalk someone, it's me being stalked by someone else and i'm worried they could find me via my domains. Thanks :o)
Whose responsibility to set up reverse DNS lookup? I registered a domain from an ISP/Hosting company, and leased a Virtual Private Server from them to operate my website. AOL and other mailservers won't accept email from my website because it does not have Reverse Domain Name Server Lookup set up. Everything I have read says this is the responsbility of the ISP that provided the IP addresses and Domain Name Servers. The company says it is *my* responsibility, and I will have to dedicate two IP addresses and build this into my Virtual Private Server, and will have to upgrade to $160 month to handle the "extra load". I say it is their responsibility to set up reverse DNS look up, given that they provide the DNS servers and the two IP addresses so that the internet community can translate my domain name into an IP address. If you do a "Who Is?" lookup, it returns two nameservers operated by the ISP, and their dedicated IPs for them. I figure a reverse lookup should lead to their servers also. Please help me sort this out. The first answer does not seem to help. I have gone to www.dnsstuff.com, and there is NO reverse DNS look up registered. The people I lease my virtual server are providing the DNS servers, but they continue to claim that I have to configure my own DNS servers if I want reverse look up. They claim that the servers they are using as my Domain Servers do not provide the reverse look up function (they claim it is disabled). They claim I am the only client who is having this problem, and that it is either AOL's fault for insisting on reverse dns lookup before acceptine email, or it is responsibility to set up reverse dns lookup if I want it. I am going nuts with this...how can they possibly be selling hosting packages and NOT provide reverse dns lookup??? How could any of the sites they host ever send anything to AOL? Surely AOL is not the only big server to reject mail coming from domains that cannot be looked up in reverse. I do not know why they refuse to just do it. for me How can they sell me a hosting package that does not allow sending email to anybody on AOL?

can i change my DNS server to some other providers DNS lookup servers? i have a net connection... i pay around 27$/mo to get about 256Kbps unlimited "broadband" connection. The thing is that.. 1. when it started the service it was really fast...now they seem to have frequent DNS crashes... that is i can surf to websites with their ip address not the domain names... can i change the DNS to that of other providers or is there some method? 2. now they have offered a cheaper service of upto 2 Mbps at night... and daytime limited (2.5 gig/mo) usage plan for just about 15$/mo.... my friends say that they average about 3-5 Gig/night of free download with that... where as my plan allows me to download about 2 gig/whole day... should i change my plan? or should i wait and pray for speed improvement? i usually watch youtube vidoes by day... and at night download some torrents. any suggestions? on how to make effective use, of changing the plan or not to?
How can I perform a whois search by registrant name? Doing some competitive research, but my key competitor put their domains on several IPs. I did a reverse IP lookup, but there are a bunch of other domains along with them (using shared hosting, I suppose). I do know that they use 3 variations of the same registrant name. Is there any tool or method by which to query whois databases for that information?

What is DNS and some small questions.? 1. what is DNS? http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/lookup.ch?name=yahoo.com&type=A 2. Why a domain name can be pointed to different IP address? 3. What does it mean by ns1.yahoo.com, ns2.yahoo.com, ect...
What Javascript do I need to lookup in a CSV file and conditionally forward a visitor to different sites? I have a CSV file with 6 fields IP_FROM, IP_TO, COUNTRY_CODE, COUNTRY_NAME, CONTINENT_CODE, CONTINENT_NAME. Fields 1 and 2 consist of an IP address range run together as a multi digit number ie 2162545168 to 2162545407 (no leading zeros). The other important field is the country name which for the purposes of this code needs to distinguish between UNITED STATES, UNITED KINGDOM and neither. Basically I need to pull the IP address of the visitor to my site, send a search to the CSV file, and if a UK visitor has visted <domain>.com, send them to <domain>.com/uk so I can give them the option of going to the UK site and vice versa send a US visitor to <domain>.co.uk/us. If neither country is identified send them to <domain>.com/unidentifiedcountry. CSV file (Zipped) is available from http://www.ipligence.com/freetools/ipligence-community-200701.zip Please can someone code something for me either using this or something similar (must be free with no limits on searches etc.) Thank you
Paid for "more data transfer usage" and my site got shut down instantly.? My page was originally www.geocities.com/dinotheorist/ years ago. I thought I bought the domain name "dinotheorist.com" through Yahoo fewer years ago, so I am confused as to why when I purchased a "web hosting" package wich allowed for more data transfer usage, then my dinotheorist.com was replaced with an "under construction" placeholder page. I clicked on the button "are you the owner of this domain?" and the instuctions said to go into file manager and rename my main page to "index.html" But that was not the problem; my "main page" has always been named "index.html. Under pagebuilder which I have always used, that is required. The other possibility I thought of is that Yahoo is somehow not the registrar of my domain name, and I am aware of attempted "slamming" practices by companies basically impersonating yahoo and trying to take over people's domain name registrations. I followed geocities' prompts to see who the registrar of my domain is, but that lookup page had no instrucs.

I need help blocking a website from my browser? hi i have windows xp and internet explorer and i have been trying to block a website from it using by the hosts file and the 127.0.0.1 method... this is my host file where would I put the 127.0.0.1 code to block a website? # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample LMHOSTS file used by the Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to computernames # (NetBIOS) names. Each entry should be kept on an individual line. # The IP address should be placed in the first column followed by the # corresponding computername. The address and the computername # should be separated by at least one space or tab. The "#" character # is generally used to denote the start of a comment (see the exceptions # below). # # This file is compatible with Microsoft LAN Manager 2.x TCP/IP lmhosts # files and offers the following extensions: # # #PRE # #DOM:<domain> # #INCLUDE <filename> # #BEGIN_ALTERNATE # #END_ALTERNATE # \0xnn (non-printing character support) # # Following any entry in the file with the characters "#PRE" will cause # the entry to be preloaded into the name cache. By default, entries are # not preloaded, but are parsed only after dynamic name resolution fails. # # Following an entry with the "#DOM:<domain>" tag will associate the # entry with the domain specified by <domain>. This affects how the # browser and logon services behave in TCP/IP environments. To preload # the host name associated with #DOM entry, it is necessary to also add a # #PRE to the line. The <domain> is always preloaded although it will not # be shown when the name cache is viewed. # # Specifying "#INCLUDE <filename>" will force the RFC NetBIOS (NBT) # software to seek the specified <filename> and parse it as if it were # local. <filename> is generally a UNC-based name, allowing a # centralized lmhosts file to be maintained on a server. # It is ALWAYS necessary to provide a mapping for the IP address of the # server prior to the #INCLUDE. This mapping must use the #PRE directive. # In addtion the share "public" in the example below must be in the # LanManServer list of "NullSessionShares" in order for client machines to # be able to read the lmhosts file successfully. This key is under # \machine\system\currentcontrolset\services\lanmanserver\parameters\nullsessionshares # in the registry. Simply add "public" to the list found there. # # The #BEGIN_ and #END_ALTERNATE keywords allow multiple #INCLUDE # statements to be grouped together. Any single successful include # will cause the group to succeed. # # Finally, non-printing characters can be embedded in mappings by # first surrounding the NetBIOS name in quotations, then using the # \0xnn notation to specify a hex value for a non-printing character. # # The following example illustrates all of these extensions: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino #PRE #DOM:networking #net group's DC # 102.54.94.102 "appname \0x14" #special app server # 102.54.94.123 popular #PRE #source server # 102.54.94.117 localsrv #PRE #needed for the include # # #BEGIN_ALTERNATE # #INCLUDE \\localsrv\public\lmhosts # #INCLUDE \\rhino\public\lmhosts # #END_ALTERNATE # # In the above example, the "appname" server contains a special # character in its name, the "popular" and "localsrv" server names are # preloaded, and the "rhino" server name is specified so it can be used # to later #INCLUDE a centrally maintained lmhosts file if the "localsrv" # system is unavailable. # # Note that the whole file is parsed including comments on each lookup, # so keeping the number of comments to a minimum will improve performance. # Therefore it is not advisable to simply add lmhosts file entries onto the # end of this file.
